Spread the word

Sooner or later every woman has to go to the doctor with symptoms for which it is uncomfortable to talk about. Redness, genital itching, swelling of the mucous membranes, abdominal pain, foul-smelling secretions…

Vaginitis is an inflammation of the lining of the vagina caused by pathogenic bacteria or fungi. This disease affects about a third of women of childbearing age.

To understand the cause of vaginitis, it is important to remember that the vagina is home to many different microorganisms (beneficial and pathogenic). Their balance depends on the age, lifestyle, and function of the woman’s ovaries.

All these things affect the content of glycogen in the vaginal wall, which is converted into high concentration of lactic acid (pH 4-4.5) and prevent the spread of bad bacteria. An alkaline environment in the vagina can cause many different diseases.

The use of antibiotics to treat this condition can exacerbate the problem, resulting in spread of fungal infections. Drugs and other chemicals can cause allergic reactions and excessive dryness.

But the good thing is that there are natural remedies which normalize the microflora of the vagina and eliminate the unwanted signs of vaginitis.

Important: Before starting treatment, however, you need to do some tests and find out what caused the disease (bacteria or yeast).

Natural Methods For Treating Vaginitis

1. Apple Cider Vinegar

One of the reasons bacterial vaginosis develops is because of an imbalance in the pH levels of your vagina. Since apple cider vinegar is naturally acidic, it can assist in restoring the proper balance between “bad” and “good” bacteria in your body. Apple cider vinegar also has the ability to eliminate bad bacteria because it is antibacterial. You can add 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar to two cups of water and use the solution to douche once a day until your infection clears. You can also add ½ cup of apple cider vinegar to a bath and soak for about ½ hour.

2. Chamomile Tea

Bring 4 cups of water to a boil and add 2 tablespoons dried chamomile flowers and simmer for 5-10 minutes. Rinse and wash with this potion, taking into account the severity of the disease. Follow this treatment until the microflora is normalized.

3. Oregano Oil

Oregano oil is a potent oil with anti fungal qualities and therefore can be used for treating vaginitis that is caused due to a fungal infection like a yeast infection. Oregano oil has to be taken twice a day in quantities of 500 mg per dose. The treatment can be continued until you feel better and the infection has completely retracted, when you no longer feel itchy and burning all over.

4. Garlic

Garlic helps in boosting the immune system and helping the body fight against infections. Garlic is also an antiseptic and antibacterial and hence can be used to destroy the bacteria present in the vagina. 300 mg of garlic supplements every day can take care of most types of vaginitis is a few days. 3-4 cloves of raw garlic can also be chewed every day if you can stand its odour.

Garlic can be used for external application as well for curing vaginitis. Crush garlic to form a paste and apply inside the vagina for destroying the germs present inside the vagina. Using garlic for internal and external treatment will cure vaginitis completely.

Bacterial infections can be overpowered by consuming yoghurt with live cultures. Yoghurt invades the stomach and kills all the bad bacteria by destroying them in large numbers and promoting the growth of good bacteria.

Yoghurt can be used for application inside the vagina for removing the bacterial action inside the vaginal canal. Consume two cups of yoghurt every day and apply fresh yoghurt inside your vagina every few hours for best results.

6. Chamomile Tea Bags

The soothing qualities of chamomile will help in relieving the inflammation of the vaginal walls by external application. Take a glass of hot water and soak a chamomile tea bag inside. Allow it to remain inside for two minutes. Let it cool and apply the tea bag inside the vagina, squeezing it so that the water goes inside and starts its herbal action on the vaginal walls. Continue this for about two weeks when the inflammation would have subsided completely and you are back to your usual self.

7. Cranberry Juice

Cranberry juice is used for treating bacterial infections like UTI. They are highly acidic in nature and help in making the vagina acidic which will stop the bacteria from multiplying as they cannot thrive in acidic environments. Including cranberry juice in your diet every day will ensure that you do not get vaginitis.

8. Cold Compress

Take aloe gel and apply on the genital area and on the inner walls of the vagina. It would be good to shave off the pubic hair when you have infections and for easy application of the gel. This will immediately stop the itching and provide relief.

Application of cabbage leaves too can help in controlling the itching sensation and pain in the vaginal area. Taka some cabbage leaves and crush to form smaller pieces. Remove the hard veins as well. Cover the crushed leaves in gauze and leave them inside your underwear. You can secure them in place by using a sanitary napkin upside down so that the glue will keep the gauze in place.
